In India it is said ‘water is life’. But the condition of the country’s taps is not such that we can accept this fact. Actually, water has become very polluted at this time in the whole world including India. Earlier man used to drink water directly from the taps, but do you still do that? Would not do. Today every house has an ARO filter. We do not drink water without filtering it. When we are out, we try to drink bottled water. So let us tell you today whether we can trust the tap water in our country i.e. India.
tap water conditions
The condition of tap water in India may vary depending on the region and source of water. In some areas, tap water may contain high levels of contaminants such as bacteria, heavy metals or chemicals. This water is not fit for drinking at all. You can become seriously ill after drinking it. Whereas in many cities, the condition of tap water is fine. That is, the water of these cities meets the standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards. If you live in such cities, you can drink water directly from the tap here. However, such cities are very few in India. So whenever you drink water from outside, try to boil it and drink it. In fact, boiling water for several minutes can also help kill harmful bacteria and make it safe to drink.
What does WHO say on tap water?
According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, more than 70% of water sources in India are contaminated with faecal matter, making it a significant public health concern. To reduce the risks associated with contaminated tap water, many people in India opt to drink bottled water or use water filter systems. However, it is important to exercise caution when purchasing bottled water, as some brands may contain contaminants or be of poor quality. Additionally, some water filter systems may not effectively remove all contaminants from the water, so it is important to use a reputable brand and test your water regularly to ensure its safety. In addition to the challenges posed by contaminated tap water, access to safe drinking water is also limited in many rural areas of India, where more than 600 million people still depend on contaminated sources for their daily water needs.
What is the Government of India doing on this
The Government of India has launched several initiatives to address this issue, including the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) and the National Rural Drinking Water Program with the aim of providing clean drinking water to rural communities. However, the implementation of these initiatives has been slow and there is still a long way to go to ensure that all Indians have access to safe drinking water. Governments, non-governmental organizations and private companies are all working together to improve the situation, but much more needs to be done to ensure that everyone has access to clean and safe water.
